Join us in making a difference for Florence, SC League
The LWV was established during the National American Woman Suffrage Association’s (NAWSA) convention in Chicago. Carrie Chapman Catt, who was the president of NAWSA at the time, proposed the formation of the League to “finish the fight” for women's suffrage and to ensure that newly enfranchised women could exercise their right to vote effectively.
The organization’s primary goal at its inception was to help women become informed and active participants in the democratic process. The League focused on educating women about political issues, promoting voter registration and turnout, and advocating for good government policies at the local, state, and national levels.
League of Women Voters of the Florence Area was formed in 1970 with Shirley Skow as the first President. Dolores Miller, Patsy Stone and Barbara Sylvester were part of the group.
Over the years, we have accomplished many important milestones in our mission to support mental health, including expanding our services and increasing accessibility to mental health resources.
